Dark, deep, but delicate nose with dark but not overripe fruit, pleasantly distant smoke, and some floral notes. Balanced in the mouth: at once generous and light. Tannins beginning to resolve, there’s a gentle roughness. A medium long finish. Delicious.

Good wine for sure but also still in a closed buttoned down sort of way phase that struggles to deliver at this stage. Touch one dimensional and not sure if this at this stage could benefit from some decanting much to the anathema of the purists. Not better at this stage than a 92

Burgs and Cassoulet on a Cold and Rainy Spring Evening (Sta. Rita Hills, CA): In somewhat of an awkward place, a bit monolithic despite several hours of aeration. I can see the quality here, rich and concentrated. There was ripe red berry notes, some smoke and a robust texture. Not a style to which I am drawn to be honest, but if I am lucky enough to revisit I would happily reevaluate.

GMs - Kevin Burgundy Dinner: Blind. Gunpowder, spice, oak, light herbs and earth as well. The palate shows immense structure, the powerful fruit hiding behind slightly at the moment. Tight and very young, this needs a significant amount of time to stretch out and show what its got.
