Tasted by MPAN on 10/2/2009 & rated 97 points: Rusty red to brown; nose of sweets and licorice; amazing taste, clear licorice, sweet, round, slightly spiced, powerful. Very good. (515 views)
Tasted by Billy Swan on 9/28/2009: A little bit mute straight out of the bottle, but it's singing after just five minutes in the decanter. It sings strawberry jam. That first impression is bit overwhelming but it opens up even more to figs, spices (garrigues, cinnamon, a touch of vanilla), mineral and a forest floor-feeling which makes me think of Burgundy. This is so elegant and classy, but is has power too. It easily handles the ground moose beef which we're having for dinner. I love the mineral, I love the little licorice twist at at the end and there is some good acidity too, almost citrus-like. It's fabuolous with food, it sings with cheese and it's pure joy on it's own. This is my kind of wine. (557 views)
Tasted by Winevestor on 6/7/2009 & rated 92 points: Lovely wine made of 100% grenache. Comes across on the nose, good and oily, straw and barn. Big aroma which changed over a couple of hours. Delicate in the mouth, pure (!) bright flavors of red fruit (raspberry). Beautifully integrated tannina and acid, almost like a Washington pinot at times. The flavors also changed over time. Earlier the fruit, afterward the stink come to the fore. Made in a traditional style, I now want to try out the Barrots' other Domaine la Barroche offerings. I'm going to buy me a little more of this. (744 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 5/21/2009 & rated 92 points: Complex and youthful bouquet with very tempting primary fruits. Juicy. Good tannin and bitterness. A bit alcoholic but really an excellent wine. (807 views)

Tasted by Deand on 4/22/2009 & rated 87 points: Smooth tannins finish is much like a Pinot Noir. Berry finish outstanding (952 views)

Tasted by peteng on 1/10/2009 & rated 90 points: Very little nose at first. Opened up after an hour, but still less than expected. Pure taste of violets and red berries. Velvety. A bit one-dimensional. Let us hope for even better in a couple of years. (1227 views)
Tasted by cseanb1 on 12/30/2008 & rated 90 points: Decanted 30 minutes and consumed over 1.5 hours there after. Based upon the weight of the wine on the palate, I can see the comparison to Rayas. However, the complexity tonight was not in the same league. Enjoyable none the less, I would hold on this for several more years or decant it for 2-3 hours minimum as the last glass tonight showed the most depth. (1298 views)
Tasted by dbkitc on 8/25/2008 & rated 92 points: (at Christopher Daniel – Baltimore) Very cool to taste. Lightest color of the wines so far – ruby. Very different profile – this is very fruit driven and lush – clean black cherry fruit. Like a modern version of Rayas – I understand the comparison. This wine just screams out Grenache. Very “pure” – ha ha. A treat. (92) (1513 views)

Tasted by Anonymous on 5/16/2008 & rated 92 points: Un colosse. Tasted by Finare Vinare on 4/18/2008 & rated 93 points: Burgundian, slinky appearance - a brownish warm ruby red. Beautiful nose of old strawberry jam and raspberry reduction, with overtones of grilled meat, tar, aniseed, sage, minerals and flowers. Actually reminds us of barolos from Scavino and Sandrone. Subtle hints of kirsch. There's a fresh balance on the palate, with food-friendly, refreshing acids and herbs. The impression is one of lightness and elegance, in spite of the power and intensity. Sweetness is kept on a pretty tight leash, and the alcohol never takes over. Again we think of Bric dël Fiasc: the playfulness, the intensity, the viscous mouthfeel and the smooth texture. It's a really beautiful wine, we also make comparisons to top burgundy. Unexpected aromas of hip rose and blood orange appear as we speak. This is a lady - feminine, elegant and loveable. Worth every penny. Drinking perfectly right now. (2206 views)

(2101 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 10/1/2007 & rated 90 points: Ruby colored. I have to admit I loved the nose on this. Cherry, raspberry, anise and I agree w/ Tanzer " a whiff of blood orange." Slightly tart in a groseille jelly sort of way but w/ good acidity. When the tannins subside a bit, the balance should be a thing to behold/taste. Nice finish. 100% Grenache and thus, the name "PURE".  Tasted by Anonymous on 7/13/2007: This was a very unusual Chateauneuf and unlike any other old vine Grenache cuvee I have tried. Medium to light red color looks more like Pinot. The high-toned aromatics feature not only red fruits and anise, but also marked floral elements and ripe stone fruit (peach?). Fresh with no hint of overripeness, but the olfactory impression is one of almost sickly volatility and sweetness. I'm hard pressed to think of a red wine analogy, but the nose made me think of overblown Gewurtztraminer or Viognier in its marked perfuminess. On the palate, smooth, and rather elegant if simple; the fruit is excellent, acidity is bright, and tannins are not at all prominent. So, nice wine if you can overcome the nose, which, in my opinion, is unique, exaggerated, and not pleasant, but it is certainly not marred by the usual southern Rhone culprits of brett or surmaturite. My best guess is to drink rather than hold. This is the first Barroche wine I've tried; disappointingly, this bottle was neither worth the price nor the hype it has received, and it surely is NOT the seocnd coming of Rayas. (2438 views)
