Nice deep color. This is very expressive on the nose, with ripe aromas of apricot, lemon oil, orange blossom, petrol, and minerals. On the palate, this is showing excellent concentration and wonderful balance. This certainly has a graceful edge to it, and the fruit is very pure. A long finish is dominated by high acidity and minerals.

Lychee, other ripe yellow fruit, honey, citrus fruit, lemon peel on the expressive and impressive nose. This returns on the palate, supported by good, but somewhat ripe citruslike acidity, lots of glycerol, ever so slight sweet touch, hazlenuts and a hint of stony minerals. Already a hint of 'petrol'. Much more open then a year ago. I have no idea if this must or can age, but is just plain delicious right now.

Nose remains closed and the palate is also more closed on the first day; however it is much improved on the second day with all the positive elements of my first tasting note of about a year ago.

The nose is rather closed: some lemon peel and mineral impressions. The palate is much more revealing: rich and complex, with ripe yellow fruit, stoney and smokey minerals, a refreshing citrus-like acidity and just the right hint of sweetness (I like my Rieslings on the dry side as this one is). Very balanced wine. Long aftertaste. Surely will gain even more complexity with age.

Lunch by Hans Horberth * with Weil, Reinhartshausen and Johannishof (Rheingau Gourmet & Wine Festival Hattenheim, Germany): The house style is for EG with some RS and in the otherwise very classical context of 2004 this makes for a very attractive package.
