  • Winebar [2 Rosés, 2 Whts, & 8 Reds] from 07/26/19 + 6 Shared Bottles (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): THANK you SO much for sharing this, John! :)

"From a 0.64 ha parcel on marly & rocky terrain at the top of the slope, near the lieu-dit 'Les Fèves'; 66% whole clusters, 20% new barrels; 13% ABV, 3.5 ph: 175 cases produced."

N: Red rasps with notes of minerals & hints of flowers? Intensity lurking?

P: LM, poss Lt, body; NICE, almost swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which, while staying in contact with the init frt, evolves into a LONG, balanced finish with an intriguing tangy/swtness to the dusty tannins. NEEDS through '20, then approaching its 15th? VERY nicely done! My EXC; 89-91 pts Burghound (4/15/14), 89 Tanzer, 86 Jeannie Cho Lee, and 16 (Jancis) & 17+/20 (Hemming) from Jancis Robinson.

  • Clear red, slight orange hint to the edge, thin quick drops. Black cherry, mushrooms, leather, raspberry, hint of turpentine on the nose. Red cherry, leather, some wood taste. Fruity, slight tartness and closed. Young.

Had opened up wonderfully on day two. Red cherry, tobacco and mushroom nose. Lovely red fruit, raspberry, red cherry taste. Restrained acidity and rounded tannins. Fantastic wine.

At this point, decant for a few hours before drinking. Score is for showing on day two, day one i would judge it to 87, since I know nothing of assessing future quality of immature wine.

  • I did like this wine its just sooo young. Good richness on the nose. Very Montille in style - linear and austere at such a young age. On the palate tastes like heavy use of whole cluster with good notes of stem, spices, deep cherries and more than a trace of wood. There is some nice fruit in here but this needs a lot of time.

  • Nice 2012 de Montille Flight (Dig Wines, San Francisco): Full red. Attractive not overly ripe black cherry. Medium weight, fairly meaty. Strong red fruit of the same character complemented by moderate, intriguing smokiness. Fine acidity, modest amount of wood showing, round tannins. Not the most finesseful wine ever, but a very well made Beaune that is a good mouthful even now.

  • En-Primeur Tasting: Very punchy and chunky fruit at the moment, with a distinct red-fruit tang. Bitter finish.
