An honour to drink this rare bird, but ultimately I think this is not Mike’s finest Zin. The 2012 Montafi the night before blew it away honestly. Still a beautiful wine, red fruited, bright with lovely, brambly flavours. Intensity lacks a bit unfortunately, as what is there is so on par with what it should be

So good. Beautiful red cherry fruit, tart at the first sip and ripe on the finish. Not jammy. Fruit is tasty as can be with tannins like velvet after 10+ years. 45 second finish. Maybe semi sweet chocolate meets licorice. Woohoo. Great great bottle.

15.2% abv. Recent auction purchase. I last tried a bottle of this almost 6 years ago - it was/is my favorite Carlisle bottle that I've ever tried (I scored it 95 points). I saw this bottle pop up at a recent auction and jumped on it. Well, this bottle seemed to be in sound shape, though it isn't the same beauty it once was (if this is indeed a representative bottle). This actually turned out to be very good and enjoyable, but the fruit has definitely faded and the alcohol is more prominent. Flavor profile is still lovely, with detailed brambly Zin character. I usually prefer more mature wines, but I liked this better in its youth and I'd say this is a few years past prime.

Some fruit still remaining. Tannins well integrated. A little tight at opening, but blossomed in the glass over 15 - 20 minutes. Drink up.
