Drank after a 3 hr decant. I was a little worried initially as the cork crumbled on opening. Luckily the wine seemed ok. The tannins were soft but present. Showing some matured notes of mushrooms, forest floor, a little tar. The wine has taken on some secondary notes reminiscent of autumn leaves. Some complexity there but overall a simple, rustic yet delicious barolo with a fairly long finish.

tobacco, rose, and black fruit on the nose, dry palate, good smoky flavors, over seemless layers of cherries, mushroom, and dark character, still young, but starting to show well, match with a slab of prime rib

Dark colour, deep for a nebbiolo-base wine but not purple or showing signs of over-extraction. On the nose, the classical expression "tar and roses" fits perfectly, a bit medical but loads of typical nebbiolo-fruit. A bit tight. On the palate, more smoke, licorice, tar, sweet dark fruit, all held in place by a fine and expressive acidity. A bit of caramel? and more tar, excellent balance. Will last - good backbone.

A bit thin and acidic, but enough remaining fruit and minerality to make this an interesting bottle.

Red Carpet: Dry prunes, big t’s, a little overbearing, but good.
