  • Tasted blind. Thought 10-12yo 1er Cru Leflaive. Lovely distinct gunflint, bright lemony juice, salty minerality, subtle marzipan and honey notes adding complexity. Lively, round and solid.

  • Rich yellow in the glass. Honeyed and overripe stone fruit on the nose, with hints of matchstick/gasoline/sulfur as others have pointed out. Mature, classy bouquet. Slightly oxidative as expected given its age.

The palate was initially disjointed upon opening but came together nicely as it warmed up with some air. Probably a little past peak with the fruit starting to recede, but drank very well and consistent over 4 evenings. Would happily drink this again.

  • Dinner at Tonny's (Tonny Restaurant, Geylang Lor 3, Singapore): Quite a strong showing for a 13 year-old Bourgogne blanc. Served blind, I thought it was at least a village wine. The nose was typical mid-2000s Leflaive, all smoky and flinty and minerally, with a touch of ripe melons and fragrant yellow fruit along with a some flowers and lanolin. There was just something rather unusual and milk powder smelling about that bouquet, other than that, almost everyone on the table guessed Leflaive just on that nose. The palate was rather simpler, with sweet, ripe melons and lemon curd flavours all swept along on a strong spine of acidity until it finish with a little lick of minerality. Thus just lacked some of the complexity of Leflaive's better wines, but it was an astoundingly sound showing for a Bourgogne at its age. Drinking really well on the night too.

  • Much darker in color than the last bottle I had, on a downward decline -- some exotic truffle matchstick minerally spicy notes but also a bit of oxidation and element of past its prime... Was torn all night, good, but this particular bottle woulda been better a few years back.
