Last bottle.... Decanted 3 hr prior. Excellent fruit, balance, vanillic tannin and showing attractive spicy complexity after cellaring for 3 years. Brilliant value based on its cost when purchased. Performs beyond expectations when fully mature. Worth waiting for - I'll buy more recent vintages but keep for at least 2 - 3 years.

4 December 2016. 24h hours after opening: Deep colour, good nose. Palate has plum, damson, mulberry with plenty of vanilla and chocolate richness and spice. Plenty of life, yet.
27 September 2016 Much better after a couple more years ageing (since I opened the last bottle). Good, deep colour with plum, damson (with damson skin) and mulberry fruit on the palate. Gentle vanilla oak on the late palate with a little dark chocolate and excellent mouthfeel. Cherries emerged later. Still seems quite youthful. A third of a bottle was sampled next day and showed even softer vanillic, mainly cherry, fruit with good balance and gentle mulberry acidity. I'm glad it is coming round - it was unexpectedly disappointing 2 years ago. Confirms my faith in Catena Zapata quality at all price levels (this was excellent value).

This is a very smooth fruit driven Malbec. Not as dry and tannic as other Argentinian Malbecs I've tasted, but a very pleasant drink.
