This was a somewhat challenging bottle. It had some bitter, green aromas, and was structured in a more constricted way than recent Gouges vintages have been - this is more like those tough Gouges of yore. And yet it's just the Bourgogne. As challenging as it was, we had this next to the Chaignots and the difference was not that great. If you dig the 1ers in 2012 you will dig this. On the other hand, if the bitterness here is a turnoff, then don't bother checking in on the upper level bottlings now because it'll be more of the same.

After a couple hours decanted this was a completely delicious Bourgogne. Reductive nose but plenty of fruit on the palate. Could be great in 10 years.
