I like this more than others do. A lovely complex nose after an hour decant: deep black cherry juice, coffee grounds, chocolate malt, agave syrup, black granite dust. I don’t expect density in most Echezaux; I’m ok with a light and very elegant body, some silky cocoa tannins, lots of mint, some black rum cake spice. Maybe it’s missing a little palate penetration, and has a fairly simple black plum skin finish, but this is a super elegant food friendly legit GC burgundy, at a relatively good price, perfect tonight with Copper River salmon, broiled with a light teriyaki syrup. This will drink well anytime over the next ten years.

La Paulée de SF Verticals Tasting (Fairmont Hotel, SF CA): 12/11/10 Vertical. I was keen to to try this vertical as I'm trying to get more familiar with the Millot line-up. The '12 is the most friendly and rewarding of the trio. Great lift in the earthy, leathery black cherry nose. Nice concentration and already showing some secondary character.

La Paulée de San Francisco - The Verticals (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note. In 12/11/10 vertical. Sweet red and black fruit with sweet spice. Big start, well textured finish. Good weight, even if not quite Grand Cru density for me.

A Slice of La Paulée's 2018 Burgundy Producer Verticals Tasting (The Fairmont, San Francisco): Very pale, slightly funky nose. Light weight, meager. Some simple candied fruit. This is a complete joke for Grand Cru wine.

Knightsbridge Annual Holiday Burgundy/Champagne Tasting and Sale (Northbrook, IL): Tasting, brief note. Nicely floral with lots of red fruit. Forward for Grand Cru, this is drinking well young with lots of elegant structure throughout. Good now, better in a decade.
