MNB: Australian Reds (Home (Noe st)): (blind) Medium ruby color. Rich, ripe nose of slightly raisinated blackberry and hint of smoked ham. Floral with some violets, slightly reductive smoked meat, hints of black pepper. Ripe on the palate, maybe 1-2g RS, full-bodied, 15% (actually 13.5%) alcohol, medium plus acid (possibly acidified), medium tannins - plush, but also a bit bitter. No oak or neutral barrels.
This seems like a classic Aussie Shiraz. In the context of shiraz, this seems more floral / peachy, so I'm guessing this is McLaren Vale. Slightly mushroomy / integrated fruit suggests a few years of bottle age.
Final call: 2015 McLaren Vale Shiraz, $20. Good quality but not a powerful example.
Actually: 2012 Qupe Syrah, Central Coast.

MNB: Stem Inclusion in Syrah III (Home (Noe st)): (blind) Medium ruby to a red rim. Ripe nose with hint of oak sweetness and ripe black cherry. Raisination, but just a tinge. 20% new French oak. excellent fruit ripeness. 14.5% alcohol (label says 13.5%). Medium acid, low tannins - plush.
This is excellent New World riper syrah: - Paso - Shiraz, McLaren vale (has red liquorice rather than black meaty notes).
McLaren Vale $25 2015 Shiraz. Good quality.
Actually: 2012 Qupe Central Coast Syrah

Texanoblues summarises it well. It doesn't have the length or complexity of great Syrah but it is more than a glugging wine. Has a strong Pinot type character

Color: deep ruby, medium-high opacity. Nose: berries, black pepper. Palate: fruity - dark berries, a fleeting tinge of basil; decent tannin content; well-balanced acidity and sweetness; lively without being loud. Body: medium. Finish: medium.
Comments: Lacks complexity and any distinctive characteristic, but it's an unpretentious and reasonably well rounded wine. Probably passed its prime a few months ago. Should be consumed within the next year or so.
