nose: bright, sweet cherry fruit. Almost candied. Perhaps a bit of mint, too? Very nice, in any case. palate: not nearly as sweet as the nose suggests (thankfully). NIcely put together, but a little flat and papery on the finish. Just OK. Possibly slightly tainted with TCA. Bah humbug
Wow - this is not showing any age whatsoever. Incredible nose and palate. Somewhat monolithic - mostly dark fruits - but intense, rich, mouthcoating, unctuous - take your pick of descriptors. There was almost an element of something "overripe," but it didn't detract at all from the wine. Hard for me to believe this is a Zin from the '01 vintage given how youthful it is.
Time to start working through a few of the 01's with the next shipment of the 03's coming soon. What a nose, dark fruits and a hint of charred oak. On the palate, the PS really comes through. This is just fun. Very smooth; 2 more to go and I wonder how long they will last.
Coming from the '01 vintage, felt it was time to run another one of these out and divorce it from the other bottle that still sleeps in the cellar. The nose changed over time, starting with some nice jammy fruit and then later showing that, plus some mocha/chocolate scented oak. On the palate, nice black raspberry with some anise and a nice core of earthy black fruit which over time grew more round and full bodied. The 16.1% octane does not really show and there are still some nice acids left on the wine to keep it going. This was a nice drink and I loved the long finish.
What a great wine. Rich, deep dark color. Great aroma of dark fruit, spice. Fruit on the palate has become muted, but the spice is forward, moderate body and pretty long finish. Rich and great depth of flavor.
