My first taste of Monte Bernardi, an estate owned by an American, Michael Schmelzer since 2005. Biodynamic farming practices. According to the website, this particular bottling, Retromarcia, is a reference to a throwback traditional style in Chianti. 95% Sangiovese. I'm impressed how well this drinks for a $17 wine. Earthy red fruit, dominated by deep cherry tones. Well balanced acidity and alcohol elements. Nothing over the top, elements working in harmony. Hard to beat for a solid weeknight wine with a variety of red sauces and meats. Importer T.Edward, NYC.

Sangiovese Purosangue: (banchi d'assaggio, note veloci) Più sul frutto, molto definito ed equilibrato nell'insieme, qualche pizzetta al naso, dei tre lamole il meno interessante e territoriale.
