It’s good, getting to a savory yet perfumed stage right now. It’s a little hot though, I’m not sure how they got 14.9% out of 2011, when I thought Calera picked a bit earlier too.

This bottle seemed a little better than the previous one a couple months ago. Great ruby color with little sign of age. Nose has lots of complexity with layers of spice, cherry, florals and vanilla Lenny of earthy notes. Palate reflects the nose with a little more emphasis on the earthy elements including some fresh mushroom and cedar. Nice texture and acidity despite being a little higher in ABV (14.9% but not really too noticeable) than I usually prefer. Nice long finish. Great with grilled antelope tenderloin.

Decanted and put through an aerator several times before returning to the bottle and bringing to a friend’s house. Translucent medium ruby color. Lovely spice and earth notes on the nose along with red cranberry fruit. Bright acidity and while the ABV is labeled as 14.9% it is not really noticeable at all. Palate shows the spice, damp earth, red florals, cranberry as well as tart cherry notes. This is really quite delicious and easy to drink. The air helps for sure. Moderately long finish. Plenty of life left, if well cellared there is no rush to drink this as it should easily make 15 years…

Drinking perfectly now. Cranberry and cherry with a lovely elegant touch to it. Has aged nicely showing some wet forest floor and mushrooms. Lovely!

Lighter color than typical of Calera Jensens, with tomato leaf, tomato skin, fresh thyme, mint. Quite tasty, with good length.
