This time the wine is tasting like I remember from the winery. Nice ruby purple, not opaque, with good legs. Nice anise in the nose, very enticing. Same profile on the palate, rich, good grip, solid wine. Very, very nice. 4-14-16-8: 92/100.
Medium ruby with good legs. Needed lots of time (overnight) to reveal black licorice-scented fruit. Not as pronounced as when tasted at the winery however. Nice ripe fruit in the mouth, suave and polished in a medium-bodied format. Pretty good grip. Some chocolate. Very nice once aired out. Chewy tannins. 4-12-17-8: 91/100.
Incredibly good, and from an imperfect vintage, at least based on many other California results. Medium red/strawberry color in glass, pretty aromas of strawberry and cherry fruit. Palate opens with a blast of Bing cherry, opens further with notes of wild berries, some milk chocolate ganache, and just a touch of licorice. Finish is medium-long and delicious. Light enough on its feet, there is wonderful balance, with some silky tannins and an appropriate acidic streak, making this drink much like a Chateauneuf from a superior vintage. Loved it.
