A first for me.....love Heitz wines, but never had a Pinot from them? Not made anymore, and in the 50-60's was sourced from Hanzell. This 93 was from Oak Knoll AVA.......dark garnet with a little browning.....nice sous bois, cherry, plum, leather nose. Totally looks and feels like an aged Heitz cab! But no tannins....yet still has some nice acid and spice to keep it alive. Smooth aged berry fruit....cherry,plum,raspberry,strawberry....dusty earth tones, cherry pixy, dried tobacco leaves, little orange acidity, decayed leaves. Little heat on the finish that takes you away from Burgundy....more on the simple side, less fruit more earth kind. Not bad? Would be really fun to pair this with the 93 cabs from Heitz!
