  • Surprisingly deep and dark, almost completely opaque black cherry color. Somewhat developed and leathery nose with aromas of ripe sweet red fruits and cherries, some sweet smoky tones, a little bit of wizened dark fruits and a savory streak of meaty umami. The wine feels moderately light-to-medium-bodied, crunchy and juicy on the palate with savory and somewhat developed flavors of tart lingonberry-driven red fruit, some succulent dark berries, a little bit of peppery spice, a hint of leather and a touch of developed, slightly dried dark fruit. Overall the wine comes across as somewhat muscular and structured with its high acidity and firm but gentle medium tannins. The finish is quite long, pretty acid-driven and rather savory with moderate sour cherry bitterness, some spicy and earthy tones and a little bit of tart, juicy red fruit.

For a Duboeuf wine, this was a surprisingly lean, serious and brooding effort. Nice crunchy fruit, quite brooding overall character and great structure. Although the wine shows some obvious ripeness, there is very little sweetness or baby fat here - actually, this wine feels surprisingly developed at only 3 years of age, exhibiting some developed dried-fruit character at times. Nice stuff, but based on its evolution, I'd say this wine is better suited for immediate consumption than for cellaring. Or then just we had a bottle that was kept in above-optimal temperature at some point before purchase. Overall an enjoyable Cru Bojo for a bigger producer wine. Good value at 13,52€.

  • Surprisingly dark and dense appearance. Dark tone continues with a very savoury and bit less spicy nose, that is somewhat reminiscent of Northern Rhône Syrah. An olive-like vegetal component together with meatstocky and minerally notes really add to the impression. Not that fruity to my surprise. The palate is relatively chewy and dense with a good deal of juiciness. The taste is also quite dry, green and savoury, and once again there is not a whole lot of obvious fruit flavors on the forefront, though thin this wine definitely is not and there is most certainly a good amount of crunchy cherry fruit in the background. Nice lifting acidity, but little tannins to speak of. I'm mostly used to drinking either those ultra fruity, ultra pure maceration carbonique Bojos or the Burgundian Morgons and MaVs and this does not really belong to either group, although it is closer to the former. Refreshing it is though and I'm certainly attracted to its deliciously savoury character and mouthwatering finish. Not the best Bojo I've had by any means but I find it pleasantly surprising to learn that Duboeuf also produces this kind of AFWE stuff. One thing that should not be forgotten to mention is that this wine totally falls apart and becomes an undrinkable mess when served at or near room temp.
