I admit I wasn't expecting much, having had another bottle of this 7 or 8 years before that failed to impress me. Yes, this is a reserve "library" wine and all, but the producer is best known for its white wines. Nonetheless, this particular bottle wowed me. To start, the nose was wonderful and the notes in the bouquet (cherry fruit, chocolate, cedar) carried through in the taste. Despite its 19 years of age, this wine was bright and youthful in appearance and taste. It was silky, feminine and soft but did not sacrifice depth or complexity as a result. The label didn't indicate the percentage of each of the Bordeaux varietals, but I'd be willing to guess that it had a substantial minority percentage of merlot. I expect the following comment is likely to offend the Comptesse, but I believe that this particular bottle rivaled a Pichon Lalande in a decent year. I simply don't know whether this was an aberration or suggests I should buy some more of the older Ferrari Carrano Reserve Reds.

Dinner at Chez Ehrenreich, Miami, FL: Chez Ehrenreich. David served following the trio of 86 Lafleur Pomerol, 95 Muga Reserva, and 97 Rochioli West Block PN. Amazingly youthful and restrained for an unheralded 17 year old Sonoma CS. Good, but not the equal to the earlier wines.

Think I got this on the downside. Was a little interesting upon opening, fell apart quickly thereafter.
