This was slightly reticent right after opening, but opened up in the glass over the course of the evening. Darker Serralunga notes, with notes of dark cherries, plum, licorice, tar, also some crushed violets, cedar wood and tobacco. It‘s medium-full bodied, but lack a touch in mid-palate persistence to be really great (like many 2009), it has medium-high tannin that is very good quality, and medium acidity. Good length. A very good Vigna Rionda that is drinking well now, and probably for a few more years but I don‘t see this making any old bones. Very generous of my friend who brought this along but from my honest opinion a little bit difficult to justify the price tag of roughly $300 here.
Giovanni Rosso Tasting (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL): Tasting, brief note. Very impressive. A complete and balanced wine already, with lots of red berry and cherry and spice, mostly anise and clove. Very fine tannins and great textures. Very impressive.
