Alas, the pinnacle of old Moseel auslesen is no longer, at least in this bottle. The stunning and chiseled 1992-1994s stood above most for years However, this bottle does not compare any more to, for example, JJ Christoffel's exotic, floral Urzigers or Erdeners or to some classic Prum bottles .
The wine had a petrol lead scent and flavor, and a good honeyed center, with a hint of the Zilliken chiseling, but the edges were a bit soft. And the lack of floral or complex tropical flavors was a note for inevitable decline.

The nose is the star here; really fabulous, almost like a fine corton charlie. Oolong tea on the palate, with all sorts of flowers I can't describe, and the somewhat quick finish of sugar and spice. Still mineral after all these years, perhaps not as much as I'd like, but still there. A really nice bottle that is at or maybe a little past peak but truly lovely nevertheless.

Youthful looking. Peach and very light petrol notes. Ethereal and airy this just floats across the palate. Great balance. Finish is a bit short. Not overly complex but a pleasure to drink.

Veery heavy and intense Petrol notes (pure benzine) at first. These notes will evaporate after some minutes and one gets a ripe, complex Saar Auslese. Color is still yóuthfull (light golden yellow). Medium finish. Will not getting any better, so drink up now.

(Zilliken Saarburger Rasch Riesling Auslese) #2; COLOR-medium golden; NOSE-burnt rubber tires; bonfire; mechanic shop oil aspect; roasted walnuts; PALATE-very smooth; a little light; has lost it's acidic edge at this point; still holding up; a lot of baked apple; a little pear; juicy and quite refreshing; GV-89/91
