Last minute wine lunch (Gary's): This wine is reminiscent of the 2012 original vines pinots that I've consumed. Its pleasant and has big fruit, but it doesn't hold any great interest. The fruit seems primary or straight forward pinot. This was easily surpassed by the other two pinots tonight.

Wine Lunch (Gary's Place, Hudson, WI): Medium red color. Drank a glass over 3 hours. Very pretty dried forest fllor notes on the nose, dried earth and dark berries. The palate was medium plus bodied reflecting the ripeness of the vintage; stainy texture, dark cherry, with cool red berries, underbrush and dried earth. This took on more depth and nuance over the 3 hours.

Just a Little Virtual Day Drinking (Home): Medium red color. This had been opened about 48 hours prior and kept under gas. Drank 2 glasses over 3 hours. Dried florest floor nose with red fruits, a touch of funk and a little smoke. The palate is medium bodied, elegant as you might expect, cherry, underbrush, tangy and it has nice length. I'm not sure if this was better on opening, but it was very nice at 48 hours. 91+pts.

Color is hanging on nicely. Mostly still a rich garnet color not too much brick quite yet.
First whiff right out of the bottle is really stinky. Reductive and full of the Pinot funk.
As this blows off it leaves behind a very delicate Burgundian nose of rose petals, raspberry fruit, fresh vanilla bean, a little inner tube action and a background base note of asafoetida.
The structure is surprisingly young, gripping and tannic still. Shockingly, this wine comes off as young.
There's a little dip in the mid palate that leaves me wanting for more, But it certainly not a flaw. Thankfully, the flavor comes roaring back on the finish and leaves a really tenacious lasting raspberry and mulberry flavor in the mouth along with a really crystalline acidity.
All in all, I'm feeling like I opened this one up a little too early. Wish I had another to give another five or eight years.

Better on second night. Nicely balanced pinot.
