So I have to say these were pleasantly surprising for a mistake purchase. Delicate and nuanced this wine showed nice age as well as good complexity and balance. Acidity was there to keep this fresh. Nice fruit that showed black and red fruits along with some moderate spice and a hint of ash.

Given the comments on this wine was expecting a lot less. To be honest bought this at auction by mistake. Never heard of this producer. And on we go.... a little funky at the open. Definitely needed 30 mins to blow off. But an hour in this was pretty solid. A little iron, blood and good acidity like so many 96s. Decent depth and moderate complexity. Overall this never impressed me but there was also nothing terrible off about this wine either. 3 hours in its holding up with a touch of heat. Don't see this getting better. Drink up.

A leaner style that has probably seen better days. After an hour or so it opened up to reveal what fruits lay behind the veil, but so much effort for very little reward....
I have experienced tremendous bottle variation as I have opened these over the past few years. This was another disappointment.

Drinking very well. All savory and dark fruits once the barnyard funk blew off which only took 10-15 mins. It opened nicely over the ensuing hours although truth be told it barley made it past the second what with everyone coming back to taste it again and again...
Nicely balanced, decent nose of subtle fruit - not a rosy or tea like profile with smooth attack that was earthy, meaty with notes of plum and boysenberries. Nice long finish. Drink up - this has to be peak but worth the wait!
There seems to be a lot of bottle variation based on my own review back in the summer of 2012 and other reviews that seem to be all over the place. Poor winery hygiene back in 1996? All I can say is that this particular bottle this evening was great!

(Pavelot Jean-Marc et Hugues Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Dominode) A nice young-looking medium cherry-red colour. High toned nose, slightly powdery red fruits - good purity. Classic '96 expression of intense fruit buffered by lots of acidity. Many years ahead of this wine - hopefully should be very good.
