  • A brillant wine tasted with our Arizona wine group with our cheese course after Santa Maria style Tri Tip.
It still has significant fruit and a moderately full flavor on the palate. Perfect with brie, goat cheese and truffle brie.

  • From a small capped bottle. Very tertiary. Very elegant and light, nutty, carob, and little soy and marzipan, very perfumed some herbal, the perfume builds up when left in the glass - creamy and nutty and sweet. Light and tart and herbal and celery and tobacco. Fragrant and elegant. Finish is herbal and celery - good length. A bit over the hill for me but still pretty. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15/20.

Surprisingly sweet with flavours of sherbet and liquorice which persist through to the finish. It still has a firm core and is drinking well. Strikingly, a wine from a different generation of winemaking, and not my style, but nonetheless, fascinating. CHP 88pts

  • Faded but still has its charms. Dusty herbal aspect with fruit taking a lesser role. Beautiful with food, especially beef filet.

  • I've had several vintages of this appellation dating from the early 50's through this '78. The wines have always been rewarding, youthful, and complex.

This bottle had many of the same characteristics with some flaws. I'm the original owner and storage has been careful and consistent . The cork was only stained about halfway and there was minimal ullage with the wine level being still low in the neck. I had high hopes.

The first scents were distinctly of dustbin and light vegetable decay. After breathing for 30 minutes the compost scent lessened but the dustiness never left. Initial palate was strong fruit with raspberries and light tannin's. Still very powerful but not much complexity. This bottle was clearly past it's prime. The disappointment was that it did not continue to develop over the next hour, but faded while retaining that dustbin nose.

I'm still a fan of this estate, but not this bottle. *sigh*
