I still remember my first bottle of this wine 9 years ago. Literally my first Carlisle in 2006, at Watershed in Decatur GA and it was one of those handful of wines that was lifetime memorable. Still very enjoyable. Today, if I had to guess blind, zinfandel, yes, but 2010 - 12 ish... Fortunately I have a ridiculous amount of Carlisle in the cellar - 178 bottles! The good news is that they all seem to age well. Well this is the last of the 04 Fava zinfandel for me and it is still pretty damn good.
There are only a handful of wines that I can remember distinctly, many many years later. I remember exactly how it tasted, where we sat in the restaurant etc. Its a funny thing about great bottles of wine.
To this day I have never had a bad bottle of Carlisle wine. Never had a corked bottle. The wine seems to age extremely well... even the 04's seem to be bit young. I may need to be patient with the rest of my collection....
Aromatics in the wood/incense range. Texture is rich and velvety. Explosion of complex flavors of iron, blackberry, dark spice, but not at all sweet. Some astringency in the finish. A difficult wine to describe, but very satisfying!
