  • Popped and drank straight from the bottle. Dark red almost black with a garnet rim. Sweet explosion of fruit and spice with hints of mocha and loads of inky texture. Lots of plum, blueberry, raspberry and red licorice with some lovely French oak nuisances. Hot and intense on the palate due to tannins and a layer of alcohol, but exciting in a way - could likely use more time. We forgot about this wine and initially thought it would be out of range, but quite the opposite - very glad we waited and will hold off for the next bottle for a few more years. Well structured and looking forward to what it may reveal.

p.s. roasted rosemary & lemon chicken over root vegetables

  • I don't think this will get much better with age, but it is great now and is showing decent complexity in a largesse style.

Color: Mostly dark purple to some red, vibrant color

Nose: Blackberry and currant, licorice, iron, notes waft up from the glass, sensual and generous.

Palate: Black currants and plum, licorice and pencil lead, iron, with beef and violet notes too. Good silky texture and finish, tannins have mellowed and the acidity is intact to finish this wine nicely.

  • Beautiful wine with steak. Paired with NY strip. Very well balanced, with notes of dark berry and earthy flavors, maybe tobacco or something along those lines. Tannins could be a little more pronounced. 91-92 by itself, 93 with beef.
