Quite floral with soft red fruit notes, smoke and spices on the nose. Very subtle, elegant and pure. Fine fruit on the palate, well balanced, open and rather round, slightly spicy with good freshness. Fine and gentle finish. It just lacks a bit of weight and power. Quite atypical but certainly well made. I enjoyed tasting it a lot. 92-94
Now from 100% cab, this was shy on the nose, but revealed dark fruit, smoke, black pepper and licorice. This carried through to the palate. Rougher without the silk I look forward in Pichon. More dark fruit. Tannin/grip on the finish.
Tasted @ big Bordeaux tasting in Zurich. Notes of cassis/black currant, minerality, earth, but also some red fruits. It's medium bodied with medium+ tannin and medium+ acidity. Medium length. It's a mid-weight wine but well-made for the vintage, it's very fresh but lacks a little in weight and depth compared to better vintages.
With smoke, spicy cassis and pepper in the nose, the wine feels soft, delicate and forward. Its lack of weight renders it light/medium bodied, while the open, fresh, finish showcases black raspberry, herbs and black olive. Drinkable on release, this vintage was produced from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon for the first time in the estate’s history. The wine reached 12.8% alcohol from 13 hectoliters per hectare, and the Grand Vin represents 33% of the crop. Another record was set with 2013 Pichon Lalande, this is the smallest level of production in the estate’s history. 89-91 Pts
