High alcohol nose, showing VA and a very high octane brandy or tawny port character. Sweet, sappy palate with little energy and low acidity. Short finish. Disappointing.

Medium dark red color with moderate transparency. Mixture of red and black fruit aromas with tertiary sweet leafy notes. Palate has initial hit of ripe blackberry and strawberry which transforms mid-taste into a more stewed fruit element, finishing with a black tea and dried leaf finish that is medium long. Sort of a weird place between young and old for my tastes, but enjoyable and will likely still be interesting when the fruit flavors subside. Drink up if you like fruit or wait. For me, best years past.

Second Sunday Group: 2007 Chateauneuf-du-Pape (R&D's): Popped & poured with dinner following the tasting. Cinnamon, cherry and clove notes. Cherry, white currant and rose petal flavors with a long finish. Adds a nice spice/nutmeg quality in the finish.

Popped & poured, showing a bit of age in the color. Aromas of under-ripe cherries, perfumed florals/potpourri, cinnamon and nutmeg. Flavors of cherry, white currants and Chinese five spice, showing more dark fruit as it opens; macerated plum/dark berry qualities. Subtle hints of reduction on the nose and palate are evident on opening and did not blow off, knocking the score down for me.

Opened by Allred. Showing just a bit of bricking in appearance. Nose of dusty red fruits and spice, with similar palate.
