Medium full body, color looks fresh virtually unchanged; nose is beautiful, hints of mushroom and damp earth, then the palate explodes with vibrant, sweet dark syrah fruit - rich and intense, but not overripe in the least; some exotic spice on the long finish, this is amazingly youthful, with at least another decade ahead of it. Very nicely balanced with nice acidity, and just the right tannic structure. A fabulous example of California syrah, all the more interesting by virtue of its Russian River source.
The more of these I drink, the better they get. To me, Dehlinger is one of the greatest examples of a cote-rotie style Syrah in the US. Bright red fruits, earth, smoked meat, and some great minerality. The palate and finish of this wine are amazing, though still mildly tannic, indicating this wine has maybe 5 years to reach its peak? I think Dehlinger is my new favorite winery. Great stuff paired with a spice rubbed flank steak and some asparagus tonight...
Tasted blind in a flight of new release California syrahs. Lightest color of the group; red berries on the nose, and very "pretty." Nice fruit, and well balanced. It was a shame to throw it in with a group of young, brash syrahs. Unlike my last bottle of this wine, I did not pick up any brett and the tannins were fairly evident.
