This one just came in a mystery box, so it's not been resting patiently in my cellar. From the earlier CT notes, it didn't seem I should let it settle into its new home, either. Turned out to be a good call. It's pleasant enough, the operative word is "smooth" - but there's no complexity or secondary notes of any sort. Drink and enjoy, no reason to try for any more development from this one, imho.

My favourite local wine store offered me their last four bottles of Geyser Peak (1991 Meritage Reserve, 1993 Shiraz Reserve and 1994 Merlot Reserve) at 10 CHF (approx. 10 USD) each. I have been to the storage facilities of the store and knew that bottles are well stored, so I gave it a try. This was the first bottle I opened. The cork was in perfect shape, the filling level of the bottle was ideal. I double decanted the wine as there was some sediment in the bottle, and consumed it over two days. The wine looked youthful for its age.
On the nose, the wine showed floral aspects, earthy notes, spearmint and hints of plum and dark fruits. On the palate, the wine featured red currant, hints of plum, leather, and hints of spearmint on the finish. The wine was light- to medium-bodied on day one, surprisingly gained some weight over night, turning out medium-bodied on day two. I slightly preferred it on day one. All in all quite a nice bottle of wine. Matured and probably past peak, but still very much alive. 86+
