A nice nose of chocolate, hints of tobacco and a tiny bit of funk. On the palate this is very round and perhaps a little sweet, nice acidity, a bouncy and juicy red. With air time the sweetness settled back a bit. Softer than the Cab-dominated blends Ross has made in 1999, 2001 and 2002, I don't like this quite as much. Still, it is a surprisingly delicious wine at ~$20. I've got half a bottle left to play with today.

55% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot and 5% cabernet franc. Wow, this wine is fairly different from the 1999. Where that one tastes like a Bordeaux that somehow descended upon Washington, this one reminds me more of a Washington wine with its distinct acid profile and bright, red fruit. The aromatics were initially mute, but with 30 minutes in the decanter some red fruit and tobacco leaf emerged. With several hours this became much more expressive with licorice and red-currant on the nose and palate. This wine is still in its infancy and tightly knit with prominent acidity and a compact feel, yet the tannins are fairly lush and a lot of nice fruit and minerality make this quite pleasurable. This strikes me as more feminine and 'pretty' that the 1999 Cab which is increasingly showing a bretty, earthy, masculine side that I love. At less than $25, you really have to love these wines. After about 6 hours, this took on a hint of raspberry with candied fruit. Really delicious!

Mmm, time has done this wine quite well. Chinon in WA? Wow! This is vegetal but in the best kind of way. I am quite pleased with where this is.
