Lovely medium aged Cote-Rotie, with great length and persistence of flavour, but not overly rich. Herbal, undergrowth scents on the nose initially, opening up to soft spiciness. Lovely clean acid and good length. At its peak now, and will hopefully remain there for some years.
Cork was stuck and I broke it, the last little bit promptly fell in the bottle - shoulda used the Durand. Note to self. Light in body, pleasant over all. Went absolutely great with a Steak Niçoise Salad - just the right amount of acid and briney olive in the wine.
End of year sparkling wine tasting: Earth, redcurrant, some blackberry and pepper. Palate is medium bodied and while it has some of the spice of the nose it doesn't really stand out in any way. Competent but not very memorable.
