  • Very pale rose-brown colour. The nose is reminiscent of men's business shoes, with notes of leather, rubber, and boot polish. There are also hints of cocoa, triple sec, and horse stable. Overall it's stale and slightly acrid.

The palate is much better than the nose: old, but fault-free. Initially there is only a vague sense of sweetness and brownness, but more complex flavours emerge after double-decanting and some time in the glass. Rich dessert flavours of brown sugar, dark chocolate, raisin reduction, and PX Sherry are enlivened by pricks of bright red fruit (grenadine, rhubarb). The mouthfeel is smooth, juicy, sugary, and by fortified standards, very light-bodied. It's much better than it's pale, faded appearance suggests.
