At first whiff, I sensed more ripe fruit concentration than freshness, but that would change on the palate, especially with some air. Wound up showing nice tartness to the dark red cherry and raspberry fruit, along with some floral lift and spice. On the leaner side, medium plus acidity, and with a nice mineral driven finish. Did not detect much presence of oak. Very nice.
Having very recently enjoyed the 2011 installment of this wine, I was eager to try the '12. This was, expectedly, much tighter and closed off upon opening than the '11, but with an hour or two all the things that I loved about the '11 emerged, albeit in a fainter character. From the powerful earth to the ripe red raspberries and cherries, this is definitely a special appelation and a special producer. My guess is another 7-10+ years will make this a stunning Burgundy that will make its $46 price tag look ridiculous. 92+
Reminded me quite a bit of the 2010. Dark cherry red. Tart cherry, pine resin and minerals on the nose. Lovely acidic cut with a palate of sour cherries and rocky earth. There is a crystallized energy to this wine that I feel like I rarely find outside of Burgundy.
Slow-ox 1 hr, tasted over 3 hrs -slightly translucent dark red with purple, darker than usual for a Guillemot Serpentieres on release -expressive, pretty, intensely mineral, wet concrete, dark red/black fruits, similar to '09 nose -med acidity, med/med- weight, quite a bit of depth - more than most vintages, ripe red/black fruits, not much complexity at this stage, spice emerges late, closed down, saline finish with OK length, some noticeable oak, med+ tannins become prominent after 2 hrs -some similarities to '09 but with more energy/tension, nose is quite expressive but very primary and tight already on palate, more closed than most young Guillemot and oak a bit more prominent, this needs many years in bottle
