  • With Indian food. Seems quite a different bottle than the last. Tonight this had more depth of fruit and mineral character than before. Typical California cool climate Pinot personality, but admirably restrained. Cleanly made. There must be some bottle variation as my last experience with this was not a good one. I have some of this in ‘13, ‘14, and ‘15 which I am now much more enthusiastic about.

  • Guys, reality check here... This is not a great wine. It is not even a good wine. There must have been some reason K&L was blowing this out ($20), and I think that is why. Full disclosure, a large chunk of my cellar that I have build over decades is Burgundy. It is the one region I value above all others and it forms my definition of what brilliant wine is supposed to be. Most of the great wine experiences of my life have centered on Burgundy. Having said that, I am a patriot, and every few years I have checked into the New World to sample something that is supposed to balanced, "old world", dare I say.... Burgundian. I have been disappointed almost every time. I am not sure what qualities this wine is shooting for. I don't know anything about this producer, the specific part of California it hails from, the clones it is advertised to have been produced from, etc, but none of that is necessary. This ain't no good. It ain't good as an example of pinot noir and it ain't good as a wine. There is some promise in the nose black cherries, floral notes, and buttered popcorn. In the mouth, it falls apart. Monolithic, fruit forward, short, and hot on the finish. EtOH is really prominent. Its biggest offense, however, is the coarseness of its texture. Delicacy needs to be the hallmark of pinot (IMHO). I bought a mix case of these wines, hopefully this is an outlier.

  • opening up more, a little sweeter, plenty of time left, balanced, excellent California pinot

  • Decanted. Age did help. Just short of Cali candy, but it is short of it... Decent complexity. 13.2%
