Decent structure, dark purple, sweet aromas. Medium bodied with some tartness and minerality. Fruit comes out after breathing for 1+hr. Drinking window is closing on this one.

Pinotage has come a long way since I started tasting it more than 25 years ago. Often they had an uncivilized, herbal wildness that was hard to appreciate. I liked this one a lot. It is priced a little above the value category, but gives something for the few extra bucks. The first thing we notice is the dark purple color. Then, the nose is lively and expressive dark fruit, but also noticeable alcohol. The palate has a hint of those gamey, rustic flavors we expected, but they are enhancing rather than detrimental. The dark fruit is enough dominated by the considerable acid to cost it a point in rating. Getting some air in the glass really smoothes out the acid and tannins. The finish is a winner showing caramel, graphite, cloves, road tar and black licorice with ripe blueberry.

I was expecting a very full bodied wine. This tasted a little thin. Characteristic flavor of Pinotage was more subtle than I expected. I would not buy this wine again.
