Pyrenees Wineries' Visit (Pyrenees, Vic): {cork, 13.5%} The Dalwhinnie is an altogether gentler creature, seeking to persuade where the [2001 Summerfield] Indulgence insists (did I hear David Jones say “I’d rather be seduced than raped”?). Still very aromatic, the bouquet is lifted with stewed, lightly jammy spiced red fruit, preceding a palate rich and intense, layered with fine tannins and discrete acid. It’s medium-full bodied, but with a relative elegance and balance which give it great length and persistence. A pleasure to taste. Remarkable that the same region in the same year could produce two wines so utterly different in character, and yet both are so memorable.

A big, powerful, no holds barred, brute of a wine. Spicy and peppery along the full length of the wine. I can’t understand why this wasn’t decanted by the winery before serving. I’d love to see where this is at in about 10 years time but I just don’t think my bank manager would approve.

Beautiful expression of shiraz, still a lot of fruit, spices some floral notes (!), balanced, long, a fantastic shiraz!

Kicking and alive, mature as well. Fresh, fruit, spices, ripe tannins still there. A great shiraz, let us see what it is like tomorrow.

Dark cherries, roses and charcoal. Compelling and complex. Bright, intricate lacy palate. Elegant, flavoursome, length. (93 Excellent wine)
