Decanted and then followed for 2-1/2 hours. Bought direct when first offered by the winery. Dark color with no evidence of bricking or other visual age components. However, it is beginning to take on tertiary flavors of age, and gets better as it takes on air. The palate is principally meaty dark cherry and violets. The flavor fills the palate and flows all the way to the back of the tongue with the dark cherry. There is a tiny bit of aged claret evocative of smooth saddle leather, but just a faint background component. An outstanding presentation of a balanced, non-syrupy zinfandel.
PS - the ABV was 15.5% but there was no heat and it was not noticeable.I've had plenty of wines at 13.5% ABV where I noticed it a lot more.

This bottle was impeccably made, with brilliantly saturated garnet color, a pure, seamless mouthfeel, and for the most part great structure. Many would love this wine for its almost voluptuous appeal. For me, I cannot get past the high alcohol and somewhat raisiny aromas and taste and hot finish of many of today's zins, this one included. Weighing in at 15.4% -- recognizing that many other high-scoring zins are above that -- this wine is a bit too much for me. I far prefer the zins of old, with their cherry-cola freshness and easy, food-friendly drinkability. While I have to respect its integrity, this just isn't a style of wine that I like.

Spectacular, and a total surprise (my wife loved it). Comparable: Roberto Clemente.

Beautiful, refined Zin that is elegant and supple on the palate...none of the typical Zinfandel heat. This wine has plenty of life left to it, too!
