  • Another bottle showing as beautifully as the one from earlier this fall. Knoll belongs to an organization which practices the highest levels of QC and farming standards in Austria and it comes through.

There is certainly a style here. Fresh, crisp & high in acid. That style speaks more to the integrity of the fruit farming & winemaking. The wine still has to be great and this certainly is. I don't know if a word exists that defines a meeting of beauty & belief in the way one does their work, but Knoll finds that balance here. Amazing.

  • Served a little cooler than cellar temp. Clear light gold in the glass. A different take on GV than any I've had before. Driven more with acidity & mineral than fleshy fruit, but absolutely uncompromising in the purity of nose & palate. This is the embodiment of balance. Bright citrus notes on the front before beautiful drying acid. On the lighter side of medium bodied. Cascading vertical texture and detail mixing with the haunting aromatics make this a challenge to slow down & enjoy all the details. The difficulty comes as the wine has delicious layers stacked upon each other. This is one of those which could be chilled down & consumed quickly on a summer night.

This possesses an intensity derived from energy which seems electric. The wine seems alive as we enjoy it. Tension & nuance play in counterpoint and it reveals that nuance of herbal & floral notes just enough before that energetic acid dries the palate for another sip. This was paired with a tomato & chorizo fideos. The spicy & earthy dish seemed made for this wine. The most singular Gruner experience I've ever had. Amazing.

  • Pale. Grapefruit and green flowers. Light, very tart. Underripe citrus, some herbaceousness, and drenched in minerality. Only wanting a bit in intensity and length. As I drank this, I couldn't help thinking that this would be a great ringer in a Loire Sauvignon tasting.

  • More fruit driven and charming, apples, quite juicy and open. Still fresh and spicy. Good length. 88-89+
