I purchased this with unknown provenance at auction, and the gamble paid off in spades!
The cork was a challenge. It initially broke in half. The rest was too hard for the Durand worm, but the Ah So grabbed with an audible "phhzzz"; a good sign. It still took a sharp worm to remove the last fragment.
The wine was beautiful in the glass, a pale amber with moderate bead. The nose, while intoxicating immediately, improved with a few minutes of air. Hazel nut butter, apple, orange, caramel and spice. On the palate, it's luscious and complex, with orange creamsicle, honeyed pastry, apple, walnuts, mushroom and more. There's just enough cut and bead to balance the glycerine through the enduring finish. I'm drinking the last glass now, after a night in the refrigerator. It confirms my opinion from last night; an ethereal wine, one of my WsOTY.

HDH Auction Notes (Tru - Chicago, IL): Apparently this was a bit funky at first. I got to it a bit later, and it was gorgeous. Lots of mushroom, brioche, and hazelnut. This is such a great year in Champagne and this was firing on all cylinders after a slow start.

HDH Burgundy Auction (Chicago, IL): Slightly cheesy and funky on the nose -- I'm guessing that this is a predominantly pinot noir assemblage. The palate seems to be in a bit of an awkward place for me. Certainly a very yeasty and bready bottle of Champagne.

Lovely mid golden hue; modest bead that faded fairly quickly but still had nice mouth feel.
Nose, and then palate, reminded us distinctly of a lovely European style apple slice, slightly glazed with cooked raisins underneath, cinnamon and hints of cloves. Full flavoured; very complex. Paired nicely with a mushroom based pizza. Very impressive.
