First Wednesday Wine Club (Napoli in Bocca, Haberfield): Served blind. Leather, sweet and sour black and red fruits, a little whole berry prettiness, smells cloying and rich, slight saline. In the mouth it's juicy, sweet and sour fruit, chalky textured tannins are drying and close down the palate. Not very nice. I had no idea what this was or where it was from.

Apperance slightly hazey dense beetroot colour with a lighter rim Medium Nose of black mulberry dried berries earthy leather tones and black tea leaf. Palate starts with dark berry reduction but certainly not over ripe or jammy, filling the mouth with plesant black tea tannins, which time with soften and reward with greater balance. Finish is long drawing you back for more Very good. Would be a great match for rare gamey meat or an indulgent wagyu beef burger with brioche bun pickle and old cheddar cheese and a generous side of truffle chips.

Bright coloured purple and ruby, Took a few minutes to open in the glass then plenty of black fruit flavour and savoury spice. Good balance and structure with the tannins being well rounded. Wanted to drink more of this!

Screw cap, 13.5% alc. Plenty of ripe black fruit here which is complimented by pepper and smoke flavours. Quite smooth and round on the palate with an approachable structure that heralds its new world origins. Decent balance and length. Restrained extraction and alcohol are big positives here. Open and ready to go now; wouldn't age more than five years.

Bibendum Public Portfolio Tasting 2014 (Sydney, Australia): Plum, mint and cherry, plus some funky element that I like. Good fruit purity, it feels restrained and there is plenty of spice backing it up. Very good!
