Did not stand up to the bottle of six months ago. A pleasing background smokiness on the nose complemented the spice. Good while it lasted but lacked staying power on the palate. A solid extant example of a '69 though.

Served blind tonight alongside the '90 Hommage and the '89 La Turque and this was a shocker. Simply pure and beautifully soft with fully resolved tannins and a silky mouthfeel. There are classic flavors of Cote Rotie including black pepper, char and baconfat and really good intensity and freshness for such an old wine. The finish is so smooth with a lovely fine complexity with nice spice, violet and mineral notes. Just a testament to how long Cote Roties can age and improve.

Served blind, and while syrah and Northern Rhone were discernable, the age was not entirely obvious. Quite vibrant for an older wine while still providing a smooth and refined overall experience. Plum and raspberry backed by subtle flower bouquet and light black pepper.

Wines @ John's (West Hartford, CT): I found this enjoyable, for what it was, but I feel this has seen better days. Mostly tertiary flavors here of dried leaves, dried red fruits and leather. Very soft and light with a hint of balsamic which suggests this will probably get worse, rather than better. Not rated.

Rather tired and on its last legs; there's a faint hint of red fruit initially, but it fades pretty quickly and leaves behind just some hints of savoury earthy character amidst more oxidative/faded notes.
