Strong funk upon opening dissipated after 2 hours of a double-decant, opened up. Still plenty of tannin, although rounded so needs food. Fruit mostly faded into the background, but has replaced with a great smokiness and complexity.

Offline with Barbara Burlingame (Rotisserie Jules, South Kensington): A smooth and fully mature wine, this may have been better a couple of years ago, but I still found it very good. Rosemary and thyme on the nose, along with a whiff of red fruit. Silky on the palate, fully rounded and smooth all the way to the finish. This was is a very low scoring RP wine, so interesting to see that this bottle was very different from the "green sap" mentioned in his notes.

At Singer & Foy survey of '85 Bordeaux. Brilliant medium ruby. Shy nose hints at fruit and flowers. On the palate, still quite tannic, mouthcoating, very good elegant mouthful. Nice body. Licorice note. 5-10-15-7: 87/100.

At Singer & Foy with MPL. Light-colored. Nose fairly closed. Initial vinegar notes. Rich, tannic fruit flavors. Very nice. Pleasant finish. 5-8-14-7: 84/100.

"Barbara Burlingame" Offline (Rotisserie Jules, London): Fully mature (slightly over the hill), showing some sweet dried fruit and bay, a little hollow, drinking up but very enjoyable.
