Solid bottle for the money. Decent depth (tannins still show fairly well for a 2003), smooth mid palate, and nice finish. Decanted for one hour and drank over another two. I don't believe this vintage will get better in light of how everything is integrated. WA anticipated maturity 2006 to 2018.
Nose: There is a balanced richness to the nose with dark red cherries, vanilla, chocolate, licorice, and some mint tones. There is excellent depth with good balance too.
Taste: Full bodied with noticeable tannins. The tannins are a bit stern, perhaps showing off the vintage, but the feel is very balanced with dark red cherries, licorice, chocolate, mint, and a touch of herbs on the back end.
Overall: This is a cab that has plenty of time left. It had about 2 hours of air and the tannins are far from resolved.
P&p'd a 375. Nice start, then over 1-2 hours opened to reveal nose of tobacco, subtlety sweet red & blue fruits, forest floor, a hint of eucalyptus. Drinking it revealed the same beautiful blend. Drink now, though 750's could last another year or two.
