An oldie that has stood up pretty well. Prune and spice come through on the nose. The palate is where the wine begins to shine with an amalgam of flavours rather difficult to dissect. The tannins were certainly drying out. Suffice to say that the lamb shanks did not complain. An old style Aussie red that speaks a great deal of the winemaking skills of an emerging wine industry at the time of making.

Now quite brown, though still dark; old woody nose, very claret like, but on the palate, fat and sweet and mellow - too sweet to be claret, but persistent and, all in all, rather lovely

NobleRottersSydney - Penfolds prior to 95 + 1998 Bin releases (Darling Mills, Glebe): Distinct brick red. Pongy earthy nose redolent of aged shiraz amongst a whiff of cherry/berry fruit. Combines with some chocolate on a soft, if slightly chalky palate in which tannins have faded to the background, but just retained enough presence to give a gentle, very dry finish. An extremely enjoyable wine from an unheralded year.
