whoops, thought I was pulling the 2007. This still has plenty of room to evolve. lots of black fruit and craked pepper; oak is present but not dominating, leading to a caramel/brown sugar note. tannins still have a good bite
Not enamored with this offering. After a big disappointment with the basic 2012 Lewis cab, this did not redeem my faith in this producer. A generic predominantly Syrah blend, there are few if any distinguishing characteristics here. Too much toasted oak and non descript fruit followed by that curious barbecue note. Have 1 more Lewis in the cellar which is the 2007 special reserve wine. Maybe the third time is the charm, but I am going to let that special cuvee age a bit before passing judgement. Hard to understand the popularity of these wines.
