This bottle took quite a bit of time to show the more classic ‘03 ripeness- a bit quiet and closed in initially, this shows subtle richness of red currant (dried fruits), deep red cherry, black tea, soy sauce and autumn leaf nuances throughout with cupboard spices and an almost cherry pie/coulis character with extended swirling in the glass. Based on this wine’s showing and inherent richness, I suspect this is for the long haul! There is no reason to believe it won’t last for decades, yet and I suspect, show more aromatic detail and Grand Cru layering. This was very interesting to taste. 92+.

Brought this to a Gevrey Chambertin tasting which included Xavier94 and I concur with his excellent note. Glad to have a few more of these because it really needs ten plus years more to show fabulously.

A paen to those who defied the initial outcry against hot 2003 burgundy. So many producers turned out first rte, early erly drinking ( but then in dumb stage for a few years) real burgundy. This regal wine sends one immediately into the slopes of the burgundy hills, putting forth a nose of deep purple plums and cassis with scented hints of violets. But subtle. This is no Rousseau or DRC in terms of complexity or layering. Nor is or in their price range. This is burgundy in its retrained, pure essence, with full rich finish, round drk cherry, plum, earthy, renaissance feel.

Deep ruby color. Red fruits and mushrooms on the nose. Tart, good mouthfeel but a touch overripe. A bit cloying on the palate and finishes a touch hot.
