Bought 6b from a local eclectic retailer for 5/b 18 months ago. Not decanted, no sediment. Good dark red color; fragrant red fruit nose and good mouthfeel. We were eating pulled pork on pretzel buns with assorted bbq sauces (I opted for mild; no coleslaw, unfortunately), and the Colonia was as popular as the tasty '13 Nalle DCV zin that was also available (and a bit pricier). Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since purchase. My evaluation: I've stopped giving scores on a "100-point scale" as I've become less convinced that they can be meaningful to others. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. I consider this notable+ when considering quality, age, and price. Given the food pairing, let's try again with milder food flavors.

Giant Wine Sale & Tasting 1/23/2016 (Cellar on Greene, Columbia, SC): Just when you thought it was safe to never bother giving Argentinian Bonarda another serious taste, someone hands you a glass that tastes at least 25% better than typical. Very concentrated for a Bonarda. Has that earthy rusticity we expect, but this time backed up with some layers of solid fruit and secondary flavors. By no means one dimensional, but also not ready to hang with the big dogs. Evidence of ripe plum, decent tannins and nice oak along with the earthy, leafy, barky flavors. Not for everyone, but this is the best Bonarda we have tried in a while.

Big and assertive
Redolent of tobacco and smoke. Earthy with an attractive bitterness to finish
Great value
