  • Friday, February 24, 2006 Freemark Abbey Cabernet Bosche 1987 - Dusty rose, mocha, coffee, cassis, tobo and red fruit on the nose. The nose beautifully integrates into the palate with wonderful texture and depth. The dustiness dominates the palate. Good length on the finish. Some sediment. 12.8% alc. Freemark Abbey Cabernet Bosche 1995 - Magenta core with a rim of maroon. Coffee and chocolate on the nose. While this is clearly a sister of the ‘87 it is but a shadow of it, for while the dusty rose dominates the palate and some cherry fruit kicks in, the finish is hot with the out of balance alcohol. Some slight sediment. 13.8% alc. Rodney Strong Alexander’s Crown Cabernet Sauvignon North Sonoma 1988 - A distinctly different wine from the Bosches with a core of maroon and brick on the rim. Cassis, tobo and some slight raisin on the nose. Yep, there’s a bit of a sign of poor storage or at least over-the-hillness. The flavors follow the nose in a more or less even fashion with distinct vanilla announcing itself on the finish. A decidedly shorter finish than the Bosches and with tannins not nearly as finely integrated. Likewise, the mouthfeel is lighter and not nearly as complex as either of the Bosche. 13% alc.
