  • Blackcurrant, tobacco and ash on the nose. Mature but still vibrant. Dry on the palate with bright acidity, soft tannin and restrained alcohol. The fruit is still alive. Finish could be a tad longer but this is a charming bottle.

  • Last night this took some time to open up but then it showed classic BDX profile - tobacco - leafy, some cedar, Red-black fruits, with some black cherry and maybe a bit of black currant. Iron or something. A sweet perfumed note in there that may have been floral. Palate shows Lots of leafy tobacco, some black cherry, a nice sweetness in the background. This is resolved and ready to go. Finish starts a bit dumb but widens somewhat showing the leafy note. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 4-4.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 14.5-50/20.

  • A beautiful, mature, elegant and still surprisingly powerful high end Margaux district Bdx. Tonight drank clearly better then an equal vintage Beychevelle from St. Julien on the same bank. At or possibly just past peak but should hold for at least another 2-3 at this level. Deep purple, still a surprisingly big wine, well balanced and very integrated with oak and tannins gone but enough fruit and acid left in the core to last a little longer. Long lingering aftertaste. Nose more muted then the flavor profile and this initially worried me. Flavors of dark stone fruit, blood, grilled meat, smoke and tar. Opened in the bottle for almost 4 hours prior to consumption and drastically improved with the aeration. I wish we had another bottle - this single bottle was recently acquired as part of a much larger cellar acquisition. Highly recommend but need to start drinking up any remaining holdings.

  • Purple Foot's note is spot on! The charming floral nose alongside some more herbaceous and spicy notes is really alluring. There is an elegant austerity here, held together by some fantastically balanced structure, with just enough sooty tannins to give this character. Effervescent at times, everything feels fleeting, but it hits all the punches in those moments. Lovely with quail.
