50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 13 + Smaak / Afdronk: 17 + Algemeen / potentieel: 9 = 94/100

Colour: Light and velvety red, striking light for a Syrah / Shiraz. Aroma / bouquet: Intensely seductive and sweet-like bouquet, after 25 years still brimming with dark fruit, sweet condiment and liquorice. Taste / Aftertaste: Limited acidity, partly offset by a pleasantly fresh lactic touch. Mouth-filling, thick-juicy and concentrated wine. Big, full of fruit, seductive. Buttery tannins and a long, slightly dropy finish. Overall / potential: Biggest Aussie-Syrah… More seductive and slicker than Penfolds Grange. My advice: drink at 14 degrees (celcius), which benefits the balance between acids and alcohol. 50 + Colour: 5 + Aroma / Bouquet: 13 + Taste / Aftertaste: 17 + General / Potential: 9 = 94/100

  • Dine out (Jerar restaurant): Decanted 11.30 rebottled 13.00 tasted 15.00

The wine shows beautiful, fragrant, fully developed profile, overripe fruit, black cherries, earthy, leathery, gamey, full on spicy, almost like a chutney, blackcurrant, sous bois, smoky, dates, cinnamon and nutmeg
In the palate, the wine shows again fully developed character, very ripe to overripe black cherry chutney, a touch warm, earthy, leathery, spicy again, very smoky, tobacco notes, high on sweet notes, soy sauce thickness, medium tannins, elegant for a such a Behemoth, long finish

  • Wine in the Sunshine State; 2/20/2020-2/23/2020 (Florida): Definitely that stereotypical Aussie style. Interesting since it was an all Aussie night and it's clear that not all of the wines from that time went that direction. Big, fruity, jammy, a hint gloppy. Didn't have the acid to support the fruit. Came across as very high alc although bottle seemed to suggest more restraint.
